Premier League winner Jamie Vardy will leave Leicester after 13 seasons at the end of the current campaign, the club have announced. The 38-year-old England striker, a key member of the team which lifted the title against the odds in 2016, will depart with almost 500 appearances for the club to his name in the wake of a relegation he has described as “such a s*** show”.

Pep Guardiola celebrated 500 games in charge of Manchester City with a nervy win over Leicester. Savinho and Erling Haaland gave the floundering defending champions just a second win in their last 10 Premier League games. It was still not enough to lift them back into the top four, instead leaving them fifth and 11 points behind leaders Liverpool before the Reds’ trip to West Ham later on Sunday.

Leicester City have appointed former PSV Eindhoven boss Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager. The Dutchman replaces Steve Cooper, who was sacked last weekend after just 12 Premier League matches in charge of the Foxes. He has signed a contract until June 2027 at the King Power Stadium. Van Nistelrooy’s appointment comes two weeks after he left his role as interim head coach at Manchester United following Ruben Amorim’s arrival.

Leicester City have sacked manager Steve Cooper with the club 16th in the Premier League after 12 games. The Foxes were beaten 2-1 by a Chelsea side managed by former boss Enzo Maresca on Saturday – a defeat which left them two points above the relegation zone. Cooper took over from Maresca in the summer after the Italian had led Leicester to the 2023-24 Championship title and promotion back into the Premier League.

Chris Wood scored a brace as Nottingham Forest moved up to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over hosts Leicester City in the East Midlands derby on Friday, underlining their excellent start to the season. Ryan Yates gave Forest the lead before Jamie Vardy brought the Foxes level however Wood was on hand to earn Forest all three points.
