The Dutchman received a reprimand from the stewards after a close call with McLaren’s Lando Norris on their out-laps in Q3. Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez start from the second row of the grid.

Japanese Grand Prix qualifying moved to Sunday ahead of Typhoon
