Leeds draw Chelsea, Man City face Southampton in FA Cup semi-finals

Leeds United will play Chelsea at Wembley after reaching the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time in 39 years. Daniel Farke’s side beat Premier League relegation rivals West Ham 4-2 on penalties to progress after a thrilling 2-2 draw on Sunday. Last year’s beaten finalists Manchester City will take on Championship side Southampton in the other semi-final. The Saints, whose only FA Cup triumph was back in 1976, stunned Premier League leaders Arsenal on Saturday.

Semenyo strike sees City edge Leeds closing gap at the top

Antoine Semenyo scored just before half-time as title-chasing Manchester City escaped Elland Road with victory over an energetic Leeds United. The hard-earned outcome narrowed Arsenal’s lead to two points at the top of the Premier League. City travelled to West Yorkshire without their Leeds-born star striker Erling Haaland who was injured in training, and it looked for large periods in the first half that they would rue not having their top goalscorer available.

Leeds add to West Ham’s early season woes

Leeds claimed their first Premier League win at home since the opening day of the season to pile on the problems for dismal West Ham. The result lifted Daniel Farke’s men up to 13th in the table, while the visitors remain second bottom after a seventh loss in nine league games. Brenden Aaronson set the hosts on their way inside three minutes and by the time Joe Rodon headed a second with just over 14 minutes on the clock, it was the earliest Leeds had held a two-goal advantage in the English top flight since April 2004.

Southampton see off Leeds to win promotion to Premier League

Southampton beat Leeds in the Championship play-off final to secure an immediate return to the Premier League and the £140m to go with it. Saints’ 11-year spell in the top flight came to an end after a wretched campaign last time out but, despite finishing one place and three points behind Leeds in fourth, it is they who join Leicester and Ipswich in going up thanks to a first half strike from Adam Armstrong.
