Rodri to miss rest of season after ACL surgery

Manchester City midfielder Rodri will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. The 28-year-old limped out of Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday following a collision with Thomas Partey. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Rodri has now had surgery on his knee and will miss the rest of the campaign.

Arsenal sign Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for £42 million

Arsenal have signed Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna for a fee of up to £42m including add-ons. The 22-year-old, who started Italy’s three group games at Euro 2024, has signed a five-year deal with Mikel Arteta’s side. He has immediately joined up with his new team-mates in Philadelphia. Calafiori, who spent one season at Bologna, can play as a central defender or at left-back – and has previously played on the left wing.

Mattia Zaccagni scored in the final minute of stoppage time as Italy broke Croatia’s hearts with a late equaliser that ensures the defending champions progress to the last 16 of Euro 2024. The defender’s misfortune 10 minutes after the break ultimately settled the Group B contest in Gelsenkirchen, although had it not been for the heroics of keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who made a string of fine saves the Spaniards would have prevailed in some comfort.
