Steven Gerrard to open talks about return to Rangers

Steven Gerrard will meet Rangers’ owners in London over the coming days to hold talks over a sensational return to Ibrox. The former Rangers boss was due to arrive on Wednesday evening and is scheduled to meet with Rangers’ American owners Andrew Cavenagh and Paraag Marathe, who are leading the hunt for a new head coach. Gerrard is one of a number of credible candidates Rangers plan to speak to this week, as they look to replace Russell Martin, who was sacked after Sunday’s draw at Falkirk.

Southampton appoint Ivan Juric as new manager

Southampton have appointed Ivan Juric as their new manager on an 18-month deal. The Croat replaces Russell Martin, who was sacked by the Saints last week after their 5-0 thrashing by Tottenham. Juric, 49, was most recently manager of AS Roma, but was sacked in November after just 12 matches in charge. The Southampton job marks Juric’s first managerial role outside Italy.

Southampton have sacked manager Russell Martin after their 5-0 hammering by Tottenham on Sunday. The result leaves Southampton bottom of the Premier League and nine points adrift of safety.
