Southampton have appointed Ivan Juric as their new manager on an 18-month deal. The Croat replaces Russell Martin, who was sacked by the Saints last week after their 5-0 thrashing by Tottenham. Juric, 49, was most recently manager of AS Roma, but was sacked in November after just 12 matches in charge. The Southampton job marks Juric’s first managerial role outside Italy.

Under-21s manager Simon Rusk will take over on an interim basis, starting with the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Southampton beat Leeds in the Championship play-off final to secure an immediate return to the Premier League and the £140m to go with it.
