Wales recorded a much needed first win of their Guinness Six Nations campaign after beating Italy 29-17 at Stadio Olimpico. Warren Gatland’s team arrived in Rome with the wooden spoon a realistic prospect following successive defeats against Ireland, Scotland and England but managed to see off the Italians who left plenty of scores on the field.

Gary Lineker has been forced off his Match of the Day duties by the BBC because he won’t apologise for his comments on social media. The BBC said in a statement that the presenter will “step back” from hosting the weekly football highlights programme while regular contributors Ian Wright and Alan Shearer have pulled out of the programme in a show of support with Lineker.
