Saka sends Arsenal past Atleti into Champions League final

Arsenal reached their first Champions League final for 20 years as Bukayo Saka’s goal was enough to help the Gunners overcome Atletico Madrid 2-1 on aggregate. Chris Wood’s second-half penalty gave Nottingham Forest the advantage in their all-English Europa League semi-final with Aston Villa. The New Zealand striker emphatically converted from 12 yards to put Forest just 90 minutes away from a first European final in 46 years as they took a 1-0 first-leg lead. But they will know there is still work to do if they want to try and follow in the footsteps of Brian Clough’s side which won back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980.

Penalty drama as Arsenal draw away to Atletico Madrid

Arsenal’s bid to reach their first Champions League final in 20 years hangs in the balance after a controversial 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in Spain. Viktor Gyokeres fired Arsenal into the lead with a penalty however, Julian Alvarez also scored from the spot early in the second half. Arsenal were then denied a chance to restore their lead when referee Danny Makkelie overturned his on-pitch decision to award the visitors another penalty.

‘Heartbroken’ Xavi Simons ruled out of World Cup

Xavi Simons is set to miss the remainder of the Premier League season and will also play no part in the 2026 World Cup. The Netherlands midfielder left pitch on a stretcher during win over Wolves on Saturday and confirms he will play no further part in Tottenham’s bid for Premier League survival after suffering an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament.
