Red Bull’s Sergio Perez produced a superb lap to pip the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz to pole ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The session was delayed by over an hour after a nasty Q2 incident saw Haas’ Mick Schumacher hit the barriers at high speed requiring a lengthy clean up and trip to the hospital for precautionary checks.

Ferrari secured a 1-2 finish at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix as Charles Leclerc converted his pole position into a victory ahead of Carlos Sainz. Red Bull had looked on to have two cars finish in the top four but late power issues for Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez saw the pair DNF allowing Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton to round out the podium.
