Premier League clubs vote in principle to back spending cap

Premier League clubs have voted in favour of developing plans to introduce a spending cap. Sixteen clubs approved proposals for the Premier League to complete the final economic and legal analysis needed to create a spending-cap model. The model if voted through it would replace the current Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) from the 2025-26 season onwards.

Jim Ratcliffe agrees deal to buy 25% stake in Manchester United

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed to buy a 25% stake in Manchester United for about $1.3bn. Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group will take control of football operations. The 71-year-old will also provide $300m (£236m) for future investment into the club’s Old Trafford stadium.

Wout Poels wins stage 20 as Kuss poised to win historic Vuelta a Espana

American rider Sepp Kuss is set to win this year’s Vuelta a Espana after Dutchman Wout Poels outsprinted Remco Evenepoel to win the penultimate stage. Poels and Evenepoel were part of an early breakaway group, which was reduced to five for a flat finish. And Poels, 35, denied 2022 champion Evenepoel a fourth stage win this year.

Alberto Dainese sprints to victory on stage 19 – Vuelta a Espana

Alberto Dainese (DSM-Firmenich) has won the 19th stage of the Vuelta a España, sprinting to victory at the end of a hot 177.4km stage to Íscar in central Spain. Filippo Ganna of Ineos Grenadiers launched first after a determined lead-out by Geraint Thomas and the team, but tired up just before the line for a still creditable second place.
