Carlos Sainz out of Saudi Arabian GP with appendicitis, Oliver Bearman to drive

British teenager Oliver Bearman will replace Carlos Sainz at Ferrari for this weekend’s Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after the Spaniard underwent successful surgery for appendicitis. Sainz missed his media duties on Wednesday through illness before participating in both of Thursday’s practice sessions in Jeddah, but Ferrari announced ahead of Friday’s final practice and qualifying that the Spaniard had been diagnosed with appendicitis.

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem investigated for alleged race interference

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of motorsport’s governing body the FIA, is under investigation for allegedly interfering over a Formula 1 race result. A whistleblower has told the FIA that Ben Sulayem allegedly intervened to overturn a penalty given to Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso at the 2023 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Andretti team’s bid to join F1 grid in 2026 rejected

Formula 1 has rejected Andretti’s bid to join the grid as an 11th team in the 2025 or 2026 seasons but the door remains open for 2028. F1 said it would “look differently on an application for the entry of a team into the 2028 championship with a GM power unit as either a works team or a GM customer team.
