Verstappen claims pole ahead of season ending Abu Dhabi GP

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen beat Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc to take his 12th pole in 22 races this year at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Verstappen was 0.139 seconds ahead of Leclerc, while McLaren’s Lando Norris appeared to lose a chance for pole with an error on his final lap.

F1 bosses back sprint race format change for 2024

Plans to change to Formula 1’s Sprint format for 2024 have received support from the sport’s teams and bosses. Although any changes are not yet agreed and remain at a formative stage with further discussions planned in January, the FIA announced that a meeting at the Abu Dhabi GP the F1 Commission “gave overall support for an update to the Sprint Format for 2024 to further rationalise the weekend by separating Sprint activities from those for the Grand Prix”.

Stephen Kenny’s time as Republic of Ireland boss is over after the Football Association of Ireland confirmed it will not be renewing his contract. Kenny’s deal ended after Tuesday night’s friendly draw with New Zealand. The 52-year-old had been expected to depart after failing to qualify for Euro 2024.
