France overpower Scotland to win Six Nations title

France secured the Six Nations championship with a flourish – and quashed England’s hopes – by ultimately overpowering a dogged Scotland in Paris. Four French tries did not just secure the title in terrific style, it also brought their tally to 30 across the five games – a new Six Nations record, breaking a mark set by the English in 2001. Fabien Galthie’s team roared into an early 10-0 lead thanks to the first of Yoram Moefana’s two tries and a penalty from Thomas Ramos, who later surpassed Frederic Michalak as France’s all-time top points scorer.

Ireland limp to victory against inspired Italy

Ireland held off a spirited Italy to secure a bonus-point win in Rome and keep alive their faint hopes of winning a third consecutive Six Nations. Hugo Keenan’s first-half score and Dan Sheehan’s hat-trick ensured a win that took Ireland to 19 points in the table, three clear of France and four ahead of England. Fernandes hat-trick sends United past Sociedad

Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick to lead his side to victory against 10-man Real Sociedad at Old Trafford and book a Europa League quarter-final encounter with French club Lyon. United got off to the worst possible start as Mikel Oyarzabal scored from the spot however the were level within six minutes as Fernandes converted a spot kick of his own to light the touch paper for a comprehensive victory.

Real Madrid edge Atletico in controversial penalty shootout

Real Madrid controversially beat city rivals Atletico 4-2 on penalties to reach the Champions League quarterfinals following an enthralling round-of-16 tie which ended 2-2 on aggregate after extra time. Julian Alvarez had a penalty dramatically ruled out in the shootout paving the way for Antonio Rudiger to convert the winning spot kick.
