Jones grabs winner as Liverpool down Chelsea to take top spot

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea at Anfield as manager Arne Slot’s outstanding start continued. Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the spot after 29 minutes, Nicolas Jackson equalised for the visitors three minutes after the restart but Liverpool took only three minutes to restore their lead through Curtis Jones who appeared at the back post to slide home the winner from a Salah cross.

Txiki Begiristain to leave role as director of football at Man City

Txiki Begiristain will step down as Manchester City’s director of football at the end of the season with Sporting Lisbon’s Hugo Viana replacing Pep Guardiola’s trusted advisor, the Premier League champions said Saturday. Begiristain joined City in 2012 after working in the same role at Barcelona between 2003 and 2010. The Spaniard was widely credited with convincing his former Barcelona team-mate Guardiola to become City manager in 2016.

Brighton comeback from two goals down to stun Spurs

Brighton produced a superb fightback to come from two goals down and beat Tottenham in a Premier League thriller on the south coast. Spurs looked to be heading to a sixth successive victory in all competitions as they deservedly led 2-0 after 37 minutes. However a second half comeback left the Londoners stunned and the Seagulls flying high.

Gordon misses penalty as Everton hold Newcastle

Anthony Gordon missed a penalty in front of the Gwladys Street End as Newcastle and Everton played out a 0-0 draw. The England winger, who left Goodison Park for Newcastle in 2023, had an opportunity to score from 12 yards but Jordan Pickford guessed right to the delight of the home fans. Both teams lacked quality in the final third and neither side could find a way to break the deadlock.
