Manchester City have confirmed the signing of AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders for an initial fee of £46.5m on a five-year contract. The Netherlands international is Pep Guardiola’s fourth summer signing with Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki having also joined. Francesco Farioli has stepped down as Ajax head coach after only a year in charge of the Amsterdam club. Farioli was visibly emotional following his sides 2-0 win over Twente on Sunday which was not enough to win clinch Eredivisie title for the Amsterdam side. Ajax had a nine point lead at one point but their form in April and May saw the title slip from their hands. The 36 year old Italian had signed a three year deal last summer but has cited differences with the club as the reason for this premature departure.

Former Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has been appointed as Feyenoord’s new head coach. The 41-year-old, who retired from playing in 2019, has left fellow Dutch side Heerenveen to take charge of the club he had two spells at as a player, making 122 appearances for them and scoring 46 goals. Feyenoord dismissed Brian Priske earlier this month after a run of one win in six league outings.

Former Netherlands midfielder Johan Neeskens, best known for his time at Ajax and Barcelona, has died at the age of 73. Neeskens, who scored 17 goals in 49 international appearances for the Netherlands, enjoyed a 23-year playing career and later had spells in prominent managerial and coaching roles.

England will face Spain in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin on Sunday after a last-minute strike from substitute Ollie Watkins sealed victory over the Netherlands. Gareth Southgate’s side looked to be going into extra time for the third successive game after Harry Kane’s contentious first-half penalty equalised a thunderous early strike from Xavi Simons until Watkins struck.
