F1 cancels Bahrain & Saudi Arabia Grands Prix

Formula 1 has confirmed the cancellation of races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East, reducing the 2026 season to 22 races. The sport had been due in Bahrain for the season’s fourth round from April 10-12 before racing in the Saudi Arabian city of Jeddah a week later from April 17-19, but both countries are among the Gulf states to have been struck by attacks from Iran in retaliation to US-Israeli air strikes.

Piastri takes championship lead with victory in Saudi Arabia

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took his third win of the year and with it the world championship lead at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. Piastri benefited from a penalty for Red Bull’s Max Verstappen who finished second while Ferrari recorded their first podium finish of the season through Charles Leclerc. McLaren’s Lando Norris recovered from 10th place on the grid after his crash in qualifying to finish fourth but sees his teammate leapfrog him in the standings.

Verstappen clinches stunning pole in Saudi Arabia

Championship leader Lando Norris crashed out of qualifying at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and will start 10th as Max Verstappen beat the Briton’s McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri to pole position. Verstappen in his Red Bull pipped Piastri by 0.01 seconds to take his second pole position of the year in scintillating style.
