Spain survived a real scare seeing off Switzerland 3-1 on penalties following a 1-1 draw to reach the semi-finals of EURO 2020. A Denis Zakaria own goal gave Spain an early lead but the Swiss persevered and drew level through Xherdan Shaqiri. Their task was made more difficult following the dismissal of Remo Freuler and ultimately Spain held their nerve from the spot.

Spain will face Croatia in the last 16 of Euro 2020 as they finished second in Group E thanks to a 5-0 thrashing of Slovakia in Sevilla. Two Slovakia own goals helped the Spaniards to victory with Aymeric Laporte, Pablo Sarabia and Ferran Torres all finding the net sending their opponents home.

Sluggish Spain slump to draw with Poland

A below par performance saw Spain slump to a 1-1 draw with Poland in their group E encounter at Euro 2020 complicating their chances of reaching the knockout stages. Alvaro Morata gave the home side the lead but Robert Lewandowski headed home the equaliser for Poland. Gerardo Moreno’s missed penalty could yet prove very costly for the Spaniards.
