Piastri leads McLaren 1-2 from Norris in Spanish GP amid late-race drama

Oscar Piastri led Lando Norris to a McLaren one-two at the Spanish Grand Prix as a late safety car led to a controversial final few laps involving Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. Verstappen was forced on to hard tyres for the final sprint to the flag and was involved in a series of incidents with Mercedes’ George Russell. Verstappen crossed the line fifth but dropped to 10th as a consequence of a 10-second penalty for causing a collision with Russell.

Piastri on pole as McLaren lock out front row in Spain

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri put in a stunning lap to earn pole position from team-mate Lando Norris at the Spanish Grand Prix. The Australian beat Norris by 0.209 seconds, vaulting himself ahead of the Briton – who had been faster on the first runs in final qualifying but made an error on his last lap. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen was third fastest, 0.302secs slower than Piastri.

Verstappen holds off Norris to win Spanish Grand Prix

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen prevailed in a tense, strategic battle with McLaren’s Lando Norris to win the Spanish Grand Prix. Pole sitter Norris lost the lead heading into turn one and was then held up in traffic. Lewis Hamilton took his first podium finish of the year for Mercedes in third, ahead of teammate George Russell. Charles Leclerc was fifth, leading home Ferrari team-mate Carlos Sainz.

Sensational Norris pips Verstappen to pole for Spanish GP

McLaren’s Lando Norris pipped Max Verstappen’s Red Bull to pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix in a gripping qualifying session. Verstappen had appeared out of reach when he improved his own time, which was already fastest, by more than 0.2 seconds on his final run. But Norris crossed the line a few seconds later to beat Verstappen and take his first pole of the year.
