Veratappen pips Alonso to pole in Monaco

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen grabbed pole from Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso in a gripping qualifying session at the Monaco Grand Prix. Alonso displaced Verstappen at the top of the timesheets with his final lap. The Dutchman was more than 0.2 seconds behind after the first two sectors of his last attempt but a stunning final few corners saw him take pole position by 0.084secs.

Red Bull’s Sergio Perez won a dramatic rain delayed Monaco Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz with the sister Red Bull of Max Verstappen third. Pole sitter and native Monegasque Charles Leclerc suffered more heartbreak on home soil as a strategy call from Ferrari saw him go from pole to fourth.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc will start his home grand prix from pole position after a sensational qualifying session in the principality. His teammate Carlos Sainz will start second with the Red Bull of Sergio Perez third. The Mexican spun on his final lap red flagging the session with 30 seconds left.

Verstappen takes Championship lead with win in Monaco

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen leads the Drivers’ Championship for the first time in his career following victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Dutchman won the race after pole sitter Charles Leclerc failed to start due to a driveshaft issue. Leclerc’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz finished second with McLaren’s Lando Norris third in the Principality.
