Everton’s takeover by the Friedkin Group has been confirmed, ending the turbulent tenure of Farhad Moshiri. A statement issued by the club on Thursday morning said the Toffees had been acquired by Roundhouse Capital Holdings Limited, an entity within the Friedkin Group. The club said the deal, said to be in excess of €486m had received the necessary regulatory approvals.

Anthony Gordon missed a penalty in front of the Gwladys Street End as Newcastle and Everton played out a 0-0 draw. The England winger, who left Goodison Park for Newcastle in 2023, had an opportunity to score from 12 yards but Jordan Pickford guessed right to the delight of the home fans. Everton have been deducted two points for a second breach of Premier League financial rules. Profit and sustainability rules (PSR) permit clubs to lose £105m over three years and an independent commission found Everton breached that by £16.6m for the three-year period to 2022-23. They drop one place to 16th and are now two points above the relegation zone.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin converted a late penalty as Everton gained a vital point in their battle to avoid relegation with a draw at Europe-chasing Newcastle. Alexander Isak gave the hosts a 15th-minute lead when he collected Harvey Barnes’ ball over the visiting defence, cut inside Jarrad Branthwaite and calmly slotted past Jordan Pickford. The visitors were handed a late lifeline as Paul Dummett had his arm around Ashley Young’s neck and wrestled him to the ground with Calvert-Lewin converting the spot kick.

Everton’s penalty for breaching Premier League financial rules has been reduced from 10 points to six after an appeal. The club were immediately docked 10 points in November for breaking profit and sustainability rules (PSR) in the three-year period to 2021-22. The reduction lifts them from 17th to 15th, although the club is facing another possible points deduction.
