Chris Wood scored a brace as Nottingham Forest moved up to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over hosts Leicester City in the East Midlands derby on Friday, underlining their excellent start to the season. Ryan Yates gave Forest the lead before Jamie Vardy brought the Foxes level however Wood was on hand to earn Forest all three points.

Félix hits double as Chelsea thump Panathinaikos

Chelsea made it two wins from two in the UEFA Conference League as they beat Greek Super League side Panathinaikos 4-1. Enzo Maresca’s Blues shot to the top of the league phase table as a result, and they have now scored four goals or more in five games in all competitions so far this season. It was an emotional night in Athens as tributes were paid to the Greek side’s former defender George Baldock.

Jones grabs winner as Liverpool down Chelsea to take top spot

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea at Anfield as manager Arne Slot’s outstanding start continued. Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the spot after 29 minutes, Nicolas Jackson equalised for the visitors three minutes after the restart but Liverpool took only three minutes to restore their lead through Curtis Jones who appeared at the back post to slide home the winner from a Salah cross.

Gordon misses penalty as Everton hold Newcastle

Anthony Gordon missed a penalty in front of the Gwladys Street End as Newcastle and Everton played out a 0-0 draw. The England winger, who left Goodison Park for Newcastle in 2023, had an opportunity to score from 12 yards but Jordan Pickford guessed right to the delight of the home fans. Both teams lacked quality in the final third and neither side could find a way to break the deadlock.
