Maxi Araujo rescued a point for Uruguay to deny Saudi Arabia another famous World Cup win as the sides drew 1-1 in Miami. The Saudis, who shocked eventual winners Argentina in their opener at the last World Cup, went ahead through Abdulelah Al-Amri in the first half but came under sustained pressure late on and failed to hold out against the two-time winners.

Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli held off McLaren’s Lando Norris in a race-long battle to win the Miami Grand Prix and take a commanding championship lead. The 19-year-old Italian’s third win in a row moves him 20 points – not far from a clear win – ahead of team-mate George Russell, who finished fourth on Sunday, behind McLaren’s Oscar Piastri. Antonelli prevailed in a gripping race, initially staging a three-car fight also including Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, before the race distilled down to a tussle between the Mercedes and Norris.

Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli bounced back from a difficult sprint race to take pole position for the Miami Grand Prix. It was the Italian’s third pole in four grands prix this season and his team-mate and title rival George Russell was down in fifth place, 0.399 seconds adrift. Max Verstappen took second, 0.166secs from Antonelli, after a remarkable turnaround in form for his Red Bull team following upgrades to their car. McLaren’s Lando Norris, who dominated the sprint earlier on Saturday, was fourth, behind Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, whose team-mate Lewis Hamilton was sixth, ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri.

Lando Norris took McLaren’s first victory of the season with a dominant drive from pole position in the Miami Grand Prix sprint race. The world champion was untroubled as he converted pole into a lead at the first corner and controlled the race from there. Norris led a McLaren one-two ahead of Oscar Piastri, who fell back from Norris as the race developed and was forced to hold off Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc in the closing laps. Kimi Antonelli won a scrap with Mercedes team-mate George Russell for fourth on track, but was penalised for exceeding track limits too many times and given a five-second penalty.
