Arsenal got back to winning ways in the Champions League with a commanding victory over Sporting at Estadio Jose Alvalade. Gabriel Martinelli tapped home from Jurrien Timber’s low cross as Mikel Arteta’s side went in front early on. Premier League leaders Arsenal survived a second-half scare at Tottenham to hold on for a 3-2 north London derby victory that cemented their place at the top. A 23-minute blitz saw the Gunners race into a 3-0 lead through a Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg own goal, Bukayo Saka finish and Kai Havertz header but an error from David Raya opened the door for Spurs to hit back through Cristian Romero and a Heung-min Son penalty.
