Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta says winger Bukayo Saka will miss “many weeks” with a hamstring injury. The England attacker was forced off during Saturday’s 5-1 win against Crystal Palace and left Selhurst Park on crutches. Saka, 23, has scored nine goals and provided 13 assists across 24 games in all competitions this season.

Arsenal will host Manchester United in a mouth-watering FA Cup third-round tie next month. The competition’s two most successful teams – the Gunners have won it 14 times compared to United’s 13 – will clash at the Emirates Stadium on the weekend of 11-12 January. Arsenal got back to winning ways in the Champions League with a commanding victory over Sporting at Estadio Jose Alvalade. Gabriel Martinelli tapped home from Jurrien Timber’s low cross as Mikel Arteta’s side went in front early on. They doubled the lead in similar fashion, Bukayo Saka getting in behind the Sporting defence and firing the ball across the box for Kai Havertz to prod in from close range.
