Red Bull have confirmed that they will demote Liam Lawson and replace him with Yuki Tsunoda with immediate effect. The decision comes after Lawson had completed just two grands prix for Red Bull, and three months after Tsunoda was passed over for the New Zealander as a replacement for Sergio Perez. Lawson will return to second team Racing Bulls as team-mate to French rookie Isack Hadjar.

Oscar Piastri led Lando Norris to a dominant McLaren one-two in the Chinese Grand Prix ahead of George Russell’s Mercedes. Piastri’s calm, controlled victory made it two wins from two for McLaren at the start of the season following Norris’ outstanding drive in the wet in Melbourne last weekend. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen came home fourth with the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc fifth and sixth before post race inspections saw both cars disqualified for weigh irregularities.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri took pole position for the Chinese Grand Prix as George Russell’s Mercedes snuck between the Australian and team-mate Lando Norris. Both Piastri’s laps in the final part of qualifying were quick enough for pole and ended up 0.082 seconds quicker than Russell. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took fourth, ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who took his first win for Ferrari from pole in the sprint race earlier on Saturday. Charles Leclerc will start from fifth.

The seven-time champion fended off a challenge from Red Bull’s Max Verstappen on the run to the first corner and controlled the race from there. A “gobsmacked” Lewis Hamilton said he was in shock after he landed his first pole position in Ferrari colours for Saturday’s sprint race in China. Hamilton who edged out Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by just 0.018 seconds while the much fancied McLaren duo struggled with Oscar Piastri qualifying third as Lando Norris had to settle for sixth behind Charles Leclerc and George Russell.
