Evangelos Marinakis (57), a Greek shipping magnate and owner of English Premier League club Nottingham Forest, was on Thursday accused of trying to fix a Greek football match, in a London libel lawsuit he is bringing over an alleged smear campaign in Britain. Marinakis launched the libel case against Irini Karipidis, chair of Greek Super League club Aris Thessaloniki, and others at London’s High Court this year.

Wood hits double as Forest down Leicester

Chris Wood scored a brace as Nottingham Forest moved up to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over hosts Leicester City in the East Midlands derby on Friday, underlining their excellent start to the season. Ryan Yates gave Forest the lead before Jamie Vardy brought the Foxes level however Wood was on hand to earn Forest all three points.

Everton have been deducted two points for a second breach of Premier League financial rules. Profit and sustainability rules (PSR) permit clubs to lose £105m over three years and an independent commission found Everton breached that by £16.6m for the three-year period to 2022-23. They drop one place to 16th and are now two points above the relegation zone.

Nottingham Forest have lodged an appeal against their four-point deduction for breaching Premier League profit and sustainability rules, the club has confirmed. An independent commission found Forest’s losses to 2022-23 breached the threshold of £61m by £34.5m. The loss of points has placed Forest into the relegation zone in 18th place, one point behind Luton Town.
