Gabriel Martinelli’s effort in the 29th minute bounced off the post and hit the Shakhtar keeper in the back before trickling over the line as the home side’s dominance paid off.

Manchester City midfielder Rodri will miss the rest of the season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. The 28-year-old limped out of Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday following a collision with Thomas Partey. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola says Rodri has now had surgery on his knee and will miss the rest of the campaign.
