Manchester United have sacked manager Erik ten Hag following the club’s poor start to the season. Ten Hag’s final game was Sunday’s 2-1 defeat at West Ham that left the club 14th in the Premier League. Ruud van Nistelrooy, who joined the club as Ten Hag’s assistant last summer, has been named as interim manager.

Mohamed Salah scored a late equaliser as Liverpool came from behind twice to earn a point at title rivals Arsenal. Bukayo Saka had given the home side an early lead before Virgil Van Dijk headed Livepool level. Mikel Moreno rose highest from a set piece before the interval to restore the Gunners’ lead but Salah was the saviour once again to see the spoils shared.

Chris Wood scored a brace as Nottingham Forest moved up to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over hosts Leicester City in the East Midlands derby on Friday, underlining their excellent start to the season. Ryan Yates gave Forest the lead before Jamie Vardy brought the Foxes level however Wood was on hand to earn Forest all three points.

Dean Henderson’s mistake piled more misery on winless Crystal Palace as Chris Wood sealed victory for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. The Palace goalkeeper, in front of watching interim England manager Lee Carsley, allowed Wood’s second-half strike to squirm under his arm. Oliver Glasner’s Eagles remain in the Premier League’s bottom three, while Forest rise to eighth after their first home win of the season.

Liverpool returned to the top of the Premier League with victory over Chelsea at Anfield as manager Arne Slot’s outstanding start continued. Mohamed Salah put Liverpool ahead from the spot after 29 minutes, Nicolas Jackson equalised for the visitors three minutes after the restart but Liverpool took only three minutes to restore their lead through Curtis Jones who appeared at the back post to slide home the winner from a Salah cross.
