Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz took a controlled victory in the Mexican Grand Prix, beating Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc to take his second win of the year. Sainz passed early leader Max Verstappen soon after a Safety Car restart and never looked back, winning by five seconds. Verstappen finished in sixth place after the stewards handed him a combined 20 seconds of penalties after a pair of incidents involving Norris.

Mohamed Salah scored a late equaliser as Liverpool came from behind twice to earn a point at title rivals Arsenal. Bukayo Saka had given the home side an early lead before Virgil Van Dijk headed Livepool level. Mikel Moreno rose highest from a set piece before the interval to restore the Gunners’ lead but Salah was the saviour once again to see the spoils shared.

Sainz took his first pole for over a year with two laps that were good enough for pole as Verstappen rescued his qualifying after his first lap in Q3 was deleted for track limits. Chris Wood scored a brace as Nottingham Forest moved up to fifth in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over hosts Leicester City in the East Midlands derby on Friday, underlining their excellent start to the season. Ryan Yates gave Forest the lead before Jamie Vardy brought the Foxes level however Wood was on hand to earn Forest all three points.
