Keith Andrews says Brentford’s potential is “massive” after he was appointed as their new head coach on a three-year deal following Thomas Frank’s departure to Tottenham. Former Wolves midfielder Andrews, 44, joined the Bees last summer to work under Frank as the club’s set-piece coach. Having previously been on the coaching staff with Sheffield United, MK Dons and the Republic of Ireland, Andrews’ promotion to the top job is the Irishman’s first step into management.

Liverpool sign Bournemouth full-back Milos Kerkez

Liverpool have taken their summer spending to about £170m with the signing of left-back Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth in a deal worth £40m. The 21-year-old Hungary international has signed a five-year contract with the Reds. Kerkez is Liverpool’s third major signing of the transfer window, following the arrival of attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz and right-back Jeremie Frimpong, both from Bayer Leverkusen.

Seven-time French champions Lyon, owned by American businessman John Textor, have been relegated to the second tier of French football due to the club’s financial problems, the French Professional League announced on Tuesday evening. Lyon, who finished sixth in Ligue 1 and reached the quarterfinals of the Europa League last season, plan to appeal the decision in the hopes of retaining their top flight status.

John Textor sells 43% stake in Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace’s hopes of playing in Europe next season appear to have been boosted after shareholder John Textor sold his stake in the club to New York Jets owner Woody Johnson. Textor’s shares in Palace threatened to be an obstacle to their participation in the Europa League next season because the American is a shareholder in French side Lyon, who are set to enter the same competition.
